WhatsApp Users No Longer Able to Take Screenshot in Bangladesh

WhatsApp has been working on a feature to block profile picture taking since February this year. A beta version of the feature was released then.

WhatsApp has always been conscious about the safety of its users. That is why the Meta-owned instant messaging app has rolled out several privacy features till date. Since February this year, the platform has been working on a new feature to block the screenshot of profile pictures. Now, WhatsApp’s testing phase for the same has finally come to an end. The new feature to block the screenshot of profile pictures is now rolling out. It is to be noted that it will reach the users globally in a phased manner.

WhatsApp is now rolling out a server-side update that will prevent its platform users from taking screenshots of other contacts’ profile pictures. So, while earlier users could take screenshots of the profile image of other individuals on their contact, now, capturing a screenshot will only save a blank or black screen on the device. It is to be noted that the newly rolled out feature will be enabled by default and there is no way to disable it.

Earlier, WhatsApp allowed its users to save the profile image of their contacts. This led to privacy concerns among users. Following this, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform decided to remove the option to save profile pictures.

It is to be noted that WhatsApp has been working on a feature to block profile picture taking since February this year. A beta version of the feature was released then. As a part of it, beta testers were shown an alert message when they tried to take a screenshot of a WhatsApp profile picture of their contact. The alert message explained the reason behind not being able to take the screenshot. However, the stable version of the feature that is now rolling out does not show any alert message. Instead, as mentioned earlier, it simply saves a blank screenshot on the device.
